The Foundation

The Foundation is a Nevada 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, governed by its Board of Directors, and dedicated to providing the stability of funds for the apostolates, schools, parishes, and other ministries of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas.

The Foundation accomplishes this through the management and growth of its Endowment. Gifts are invested into the Foundation’s investment portfolio, from which a portion of investment income is annually granted to provide ongoing financial support to the apostolates, schools, parishes, and other ministries of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas.

As the leader of a Metropolitan See, the Archbishop of Las Vegas wears the Pallium as an outward sign of the care of the Catholic faithful and his unity with the Pope. The Pallium Foundation takes after its namesake by seeking to provide financial support in perpetuity to the apostolates and ministries of the Archdiocese, entrusted to the pastoral care of the Archbishop of Las Vegas.

The Pallium and its Significance

The pallium is a liturgical vestment worn by the Pope and archbishops in the Catholic Church. Palliums are typically made of sheep’s wool and feature five crosses and three gold pins. The sheep’s wool of the pallium symbolizes Christ as the Good Shepherd and, by extension, those who wear it as shepherds of the flock Christ entrusted to the Apostles and their successors. The five crosses symbolize the five wounds of Christ on the cross and the three gold pins represent the nails used for His crucifixion. The pallium itself represents the yoke of Christ and the responsibility of an archbishop to care for the Catholic Faithful in his archdiocese. Earlier in Church history, the pallium was reserved exclusively for the Pope, but in modern times, archbishops are permitted to wear it. As such, the pallium also symbolizes unity with the Holy See and obedience to the Supreme Pontiff.
Taking after its namesake, the Pallium Foundation seeks to care for and serve the Catholic Faithful by providing financial stability and support for the various apostolates and ministries of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas. Today, it is imperative that diocesan ministries are properly stewarded, especially considering the archdiocese’s position as a Metropolitan See. Much like an archbishop’s duty to the Catholic Faithful is symbolized by the pallium itself, the Pallium Foundation’s duty is to the Catholic Faithful of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas. The Foundation realizes and fulfills this duty through its exclusive support for the schools, parishes, and other diocesan initiatives that seek to directly care for the welfare of those Catholics within the Archdiocese and those that need the Foundation’s support.
